Dear NYK,

We moved into Neighborhood 3 a little over a year ago. During our orientation we learned about the Del Webb neighborhoods, and we have a question about the neighborhood numbering. Whenever we meet someone at tennis, or in the Prairie Lodge, one of the first questions that comes up is “What neighborhood do you live in?” Once I’m told, I still have no idea where they live; the neighborhood numbers make no sense to me. Am I missing something, is there a secret decoder ring that will clue me in to where a numbered neighborhood is?

Dear reader,

Yes, the numbers can be confusing but there is a logic…sort of. When Del Webb’s Sun City began, what became Neighborhood 1 primarily consisted of model homes. As interest grew and lots were sold, a numbering system began to help the contractors and subcontractors find homesites. Hence, neighborhoods one through six were clustered around what would become Prairie Lodge. After the initial period of home sales, development became more random as home sites were purchased and build-out took place, the contractors needed a geographic locator system. The numbers continued to follow a sequence but the neighborhood numbers were no longer grouped, or contiguous. Loosely, neighborhood numbers follow the development pattern of the community build-out

Although there is no decoder ring, maps of the entire community, with all 41 Neighborhoods, are available at the PL Information Desk and on the Sun City website. Additionally, there is a large map of Sun City complete with street names and neighborhood numbers on the wall between the entrances to the Birch and Cedar rooms.
