Spring has sprung, so let’s celebrate!

By Jamie Kayser

Despite Illinois’ weather, you DID read that correctly! According to Almanac. com, “the first day of spring was March 20th”. Birds are chirping, flowers are starting to bud, and the sun has become warmer! Spring is simply spectacular!

All the fun of a movie theater, just outside!

Since the weather is warmer, there are so many more opportunities to be in the great outdoors. One activity in particular combines relaxation and enjoying the springtime: outdoor movies! The Mchenry Outdoor Theatre shows movies almost all year round. According to their website, they are “open 7 days a week after Memorial Day, with a Reel Deal Pizza Meal with Jexal’s McHenry, carload nights Tuesday and Thursday with a flat rate to get in” and much more! They usually show two movies a night and have a wide variety of new and classic movies. See their list of upcoming showings here: Calendar_Outdoor. There is a show for everyone!

Sending wishes of a blissful springtime and a Happy Easter to all who celebrate! Most of all, enjoy the beautiful weather that is hopefully here to stay!

A new Easter tradition!

With the price of eggs rising dramatically, it may be time to become more creative! Instead of dying eggs, try painting rocks instead! This family friendly activity is fun and easy for all ages! Grab some garden rocks and start painting away! Depending on the size of the rock, painting logos, symbols, or even full scenes are possible. This route is sustainable and a way to repurpose plain garden rocks into decorative garden rocks to be displayed for many springs to come just in time for Earth Day!

Experience a fresh, fun, and friendly Farmers Market!

Oh, did I mention free? The Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake hosts Farmers Markets both indoor and outdoor! “ Indoor markets” are held “through April 27th” and “outdoor markets” are held almost every Sunday through the end of October! According to their website, there are “50+ vendors, free admission, and free parking.” The markets are held from “10-2”, so don’t miss out on The Dole! Thanks to some friends, this somewhat hidden gem was uncovered! They have coffee, food trucks, flowers, jewelry, breads, cheeses, sauces, seasonings, treats, crafts, unforgettable gifts, and so much more. What’s not to love? If you are looking for something specific, check out their list of vendors here: Market Directory – Farmers Market+. Some even offer Gluten Free options and others have products for your furry friends!
