Throngs of protestors gathered on Randall Road and Algonquin on April 5 to demonstrate defiance to Trump’s policies. I would guess that more than 1300 people stretched out for over a half a mile shouting and waving their signs. The weather was cool but the crowd was energized. The signs they made displayed images and slogans of anger, fear and confusion about all the changes occurring in Washington. The huge turnout suggests that many do not share the President’s vision of America. The team of billionaires running our country has mandated that agencies like Social Security, Medicare, healthcare and education are luxuries that the masses can do without.

Topics on the signs told the story – people are upset about cutting medical research, veteran care, the losses to our IRA’s retirement accounts, women’s healthcare, and fears that our Democracy is being chain sawed by Musk. One of the popular chants from the crowd was “this protest is our kind of democracy.”

The crowd was full of seniors, families and children. Many of the cars passing by were honking and giving us a thumbs up. Some drivers looked glum perhaps in shock at the size of the crowd and wondering if they should support the current administration.

There were apparently similar demonstrations in 1500 sites around the country. Some had 30,000 people.

I am pleased that people are speaking up. There are simply too many changes coming at us. Releasing the convicted capitol hill rioters was a disgrace, sending 200 immigrants to El Salvador without a trial and grabbing legal college students off the street for protesting is wrong. We seniors are responsible to a degree for what has happened to our country. It is time we decide if the changes in Washington represent our vision of America.
