SUN CITY — If there’s one thing Sun City has, it’s community, a sense that, as Barack Obama said, “We can do better together.” However, we can’t all be in one place at one time, especially with all the activities Sun City has to offer. But come 9 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 17 in Prairie Lodge, everyone will gather in one place at one time for the Charter Club Expo, which is exactly what it is all about, said Charter Club Expo representative Bob Reuter, N.12.
“All the clubs are invited to have a booth to … let the citizens of Del Webb know what clubs are available and what they’re all about,” said Reuter. “This is a chance for all the clubs to be in one spot at one time.”
More than 40 Charter Clubs comprise the roster for this year’s expo, with additional booths reserved for Special Interest Groups as well. Each club will have representatives on hand to discuss with and educate visitors on the benefits of joining their respective clubs or simply to share a little about their activities.
“It gives everybody a sense that if they want to belong, they can,” said Reuter, who thinks moving to Del Webb was “the best move we ever made because we met so many people. These clubs give you that opportunity. It’s fantastic.”
The Charter Club Expo is open to all Sun City residents but, Reuter said, non-residents are welcome to attend too. Visitors can expect the usual expo fare of props, displays, costumes, plenty of information, and perhaps even a leprechaun at the Celtic Club booth. (Sorry, Reuter said, no pot of gold, though.)
Reuter described the Charter Club Expo as having ongoing benefits, too, for residents who have lived in Sun City for a number of years but never had the opportunity to join a club or, perhaps, are only just now considering it.
“Now [residents] can come to the expo and see what is available to them. It’s not just for new [residents]. It’s a real opportunity for everyone in Del Webb to get involved,” Reuter said. “The Charter Club Expo is really a great place. I know it sounds like I’m selling … but I’m sold on the Charter Club Expo.”
