Local Relay for Life welcomes Cubs voice Wayne Messmer

By Christine Such

The relay for Life of Huntley-Marengo is being held on June 9 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Huntley Park District Rec Center at 12015 Mill Street, Huntley. The Sun City team volunteers are working hard to raise funds for the Fight Against Cancer.

Ibach elaborates, “Wayne [Messmer, voice of the Chicago Cubs] will be on site to participate from 4-6 p.m. and can sign autographs, sing our National Anthem to get our program underway, and just meet and greet folks. I am sure he will be a plus draw for us in getting more local attention. So now we can begin to get that good word out there locally to residents.”

How about four tickets to a Chicago Bulls Home Game in the upcoming 2018-2019 season?

“These tickets will be won at an on-site silent auction,” Ibach said, adding to the list of items that will have benefit the charity.

Mary Lou Dorgan invites Sun City Residents and friends to “Stop by our campsite. We will have our own raffles of priceless items donated by Sun City residents including a painting, quilt, stained glass window, wine glasses, woodchuck masterpiece, cake certificate, and Whisper Creek Golf Certificate. We will have games and face painting for the kids.”

Huntley Community Radio Station will also be onsite broadcasting live.

Jeanne Christian a cancer survivor encourages and invites survivors and caregivers to join her.

“When you take part in Relay For Life, you’re making sure no cancer patient, family member, or friend walks alone,” she said.
