Calling all Del Webb residents with a passion for reading and children! Several of the District 158 Schools will be hosting Battle of the Books during March, April, and May, and many community volunteers are needed.
The American Battle of the Books is a national reading incentive program. The purpose of this program is to encourage students to read quality literature and have fun when working with peers towards a common goal (the Battle). This fun, academic-based competition is a tournament in which students’ teams earn points by answering questions about the books they have read. Our students have been reading books for months and are ready to go to Battle!
As a volunteer Facilitator you will be the person asking the students the questions (all prepared for you) and the answers are always the title and author of a particular book. There will be 4 different “style” games that the students will participate in as they try to answer the questions and earn points for their team. They participate in 8 rounds of questions during the course of the morning event. Over the last 9 years many Del Webb residents have participated and continue to come back each year because they have as much fun as the students do!
Please feel free to volunteer for as many dates as your schedule allows.
