Words of wisdom about aging

Depending upon one’s perspective, it can be said that the AGING process begins at birth and concludes with the inevitable. So much has been said about the aging process almost as if it suddenly begins at the age of 50, 60 and all of a sudden it’s upon you.

However, one considers the process every minute, every hour, every day adds another measurement to aging.

Patt Morrison, a Los Angeles Times contributor, interviewed Barbara Ehrenreich, social activist and author, about Ehrenreich’s views on wellness, health, and aging.

The following are some of Ehrenreich’s views as reported in This Week magazine:

Our wellness obsessions and warped attitudes about aging go hand in hand.

“Health is just the absence of disease,” and the truth is that aging can be managed, but not defied. ”It’s a process of increasing disability. Things get harder. Things go wrong. And there’s nothing to do except try to adapt to each new disability that comes along as best you can.”

Words of wisdom for those of us with a few more years of aging under our belts.

— Aging can be managed, but not defied
— It’s a process of increasing disability
— Try to adapt
