In an epic crossover event, two Sun City Clubs have gotten together to create a fun event for grandchildren. This unprecedented event will happen on May 5, from 1-3 p.m. for Sun City grandparents and their grandchildren.

Barbara Mach explains, ā€œOne of our most popular events is the Fishing Derby, where we join with the Anglers Club here in Sun City. Over 30 volunteers from the Anglerā€™s Club and Grandma Grandpa, & Me (GG & Me) work together to create this event for the grandchildren of Sun City residents. So, looking for an activity for our spring event we turned to the resources here in Sun City.ā€

Thelma Jones, Co-President of the GG & Me club, added, ā€œThe ClayGround Club here in Sun City helped our Methodist Church during our Streets of Bethlehem. Our church had acquired a potterā€™s wheel and we went to the ClayGround Club to ask for their help in using the wheel during the ā€˜Streets of Bethlehem.ā€™ The kids had a blast. They would take a turn at the wheel and get right back in line. We had clay handprints on the bathroom doors and it was really cute. It was a great success! So why not do it for the Sun City residentā€™s grandkids?ā€

Cindy Ptak, co-president of the GG & Me club, welcomes residents to partake.

ā€œWe are inviting the kids to get their hands dirty and explore the exciting possibilities of clay,ā€ she said.

Cathleen Chay, representing the ClayGround and organizing the event, states, ā€œOur project plan for the kids has taken shape and is as follows. The youngest through five years will have letter stamps so they can stamp their name in the clay as well as a number of different stamps to decorate the tile. Ages six through nine will be making clay animals – turtle, bear, rabbit, owl, and others. The kids may choose which they want to make. Ten and up will be making birdhouses. We will fire them and the grandparents can pick the creations up for the kids to paint at home; any paints will work.ā€

Participants must be a member of GG & Me club. Cost is $5 per child for the event, which includes refreshments at the end. Ticket sales are scheduled for Wednesday, April 3 from 6-7 p.m. at Prairie Lodge at the Multi-Purpose room, Thursday, April 11 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. outside the Multi-Purpose room on Wednesday, April 24 from 5-6:30 at Fountain View or contact Cindy Ptak, President 630-987-9365 – clptak@aol.com.
