On September 25, the Sun City Board of Directors voted tentatively to assess community residents with a larger bill for 2020, but only a very small one.
The proposed 2020 budget is based on a recommendation that single family home residents will pay 1.00 per month more next year in assessments – from $127.00 to $128.00.
Immediately after the board’s 7-0 vote, member Russ Howard explained that the increase is due to the unexpectedly large snow removal costs experienced in the late winter months of 2019. As of August 31, there is a community financial deficit of $41,000, which is a 5,000 unfavorable difference from the budget, caused primarily by the high costs of snow removal in common areas.
The budget will be published in the November Lifestyles Magazine, and there will be meeting opportunities for residents to review and ask questions about the budget, before final approval by the board in early December.
The 2020 Sun City APN operating and reserve proposed budget includes a $3,00 decrease in assessments next year for Neighborhoods 32A and B, no change for Neighborhood 34, and a $1.00 decrease for all other APN neighborhoods.
In other actions on September 25, the board:
Appointed Bob Heiberger and Jerry Schaefer to the Facility Advisory Committee unanimously.
Authorized an agreement with B&C Enterprises for renovations to the Prairie Lodge member services desk at a cost of $46,525. Board members said a lower bid from another contractor did not address possible cost over-runs.
Authorized an agreement with B&C for renovations to the Millgrove Woodshop restrooms (both upper and lower) at a cost of $46,810. B&C was low bidder here.
Authorized an agreement with B&C for renovations of the Fitness Center Massage Room and area, at a cost of $14,969. A lower bid was withdrawn.
Authorized an agreement with B&C for renovations to the Wildflower Lake restrooms, at a cost of $34,750.
In her monthly management report, Executive Director Deanna Loughran said more than 3,000 potential new Sun City members met with Welcome Desk members so far in 2019. She also said home sales for August of 2019 were 240. compared with 206 in 2918.
Finally, the board reviewed and commented on the results of the recent Board Communication Survey to residents. A total of 773 community members responded, or about 8% of the total Sun City residents. The results showed that the community is satisfied overall with board communications, according to Loughran.
