Two Sun City Huntley cyclists were seriously injured in 2020 vehicle/bicycle crashes. We need your help!
We need your help on this petition. Leadership in the Village of Huntley needs to hear that this important message is something the community wants. Can we count on you to speak up by contacting the Village Trustees, and by adding your name to our list of supporters?
In November of 2020 a cyclist, and resident of Sun City, while traveling on Countryview Boulevard was struck from behind by a motorist driving a SUV. The cyclist incurred serious injuries that required a multi-day hospital stay with extensive rehabilitation and a long recovery. This was the second such accident in 2020. In June a resident cyclist riding a recumbent trike was also struck from the rear by a motorist while he was stopping at a stop sign. This cyclist incurred six broken ribs. These are two of the five automobile/bicycle crashes to be reported to the police since 2014. All five reported automobile/bicycle crashes occurred on one of the boulevards within Sun City Huntley. These four-lane, curbed boulevards wind and undulate in a loop around the community. Riders, pedestrians and motorists often experience poor sightlines at intersections and obstructed views of each other.
An outpouring of concern from community residents regarding hazardous conditions for both cyclists and pedestrians (they share similar concerns) spurred a call to enhance local safety. Your support through your signature on this petition is a vital part of the solution.
