After twenty years Sun City finds itself with one less safety feature. The lightening alert system that was located on the Whisper Creek golf course and served the adjacent neighborhoods is gone.
“It’s not ours,” said Dominic Flood, General Manager of Whisper Creek. “Ask the Association” was his response to the status of the lightening alert system.
“It has been completely removed,” reported Board member Russ Howard.
Howard continued, “A lawsuit will happen quicker if someone gets struck by lightning if the system did not work versus a death or injury if no system is there.”
The Thor Guard alert system had been malfunctioning and would cost roughly $50,000 to replace it. According to Thor Guard, their equipment predicts a lightning strike before it happens and it gives people time to find a safe shelter.
The removal of the lightening alert system has taken away a safety feature that also served the Prairie Lodge outdoor pool, the Bocce courts, the tennis and pickleball courts, Eakin field and parts of Neighborhoods 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, 21, and 26.
When asked for a comment about the removed lightening alert system, both Executive Director Loughran and Board President Benigno responded with “No comment.”
