We’ve all had them: one of those days when it seems nothing’s going quite right. Sharon Little recently had a day when one thing after another tried to trip her up.
Little said, “We were heading north to attend a wedding in Lake Geneva at the Grand Geneva Resort. The ceremony was at 2:30 and we left Sun City at 1:00, thinking we had plenty of time. It was an occasion to get dressed up for; heels and good jewelry.”
Little and her husband got in the car and started on the short ride to Lake Geneva. It was the perfect day for a wedding. The route was simple, taking IL-47 N and WI-120 N to Grand Geneva Way in Lake Geneva.
Little said, “We ran into lane closures. I hit lots of red lights. It seemed I hit everyone one of them. Thankfully we had left early. Unfortunately, we came to a point when the traffic had stopped completely. We sat there and decided to take an alternate route. We were able to get around it by taking 173 which took us to Hebron.”
The Littles were back on track but realized that they were not getting there with much time to spare.
Little said, “We pulled into the Lodge with 10 minutes to spare, but now realizing that we were not quite sure where exactly the wedding was being held. Luckily, we ran into an attendant who informed us that the wedding was on the other side and parking was scarce but there was free valet parking. We found the location with just minutes to spare.”
Little got out of the car, got our ticket from the attendee, and got directions to the wedding. Little said, “We entered and found that five weddings were being held at the Grand Geneva.
We located the names of our bride and groom and headed to the reception room, but the room was empty.”
The Littles found someone to ask where everyone was and they were informed the reception was in the room, but the ceremony was outside.
Little said, “It was then that I noticed I was missing my necklace that had a diamond slide. I was devastated as it was an anniversary present. The hotel employee offered to help find the necklace. He would retrace our steps and look. We headed to the location of the ceremony. Unfortunately, we were once more deterred, I was wearing heels and they came unglued going down the stairs.”
Luckily Little did not fall down the stairs or trip.
Little said, “I had a pair of flats in a bag with me. I knew that I couldn’t stay in the heels all night. I put the shoes on and was ready to go. We arrived just as the bride was coming down the aisle. I tried not to let my worries over the necklace take over the joy of the ceremony.”
The Hotel employee did not find the necklace but offered to search the car. Little handed her claim ticket and hoped for the best.
Little said, “He returned 45 minutes later. They did not find the necklace. We filled out some paperwork before we left and I just hoped for the best. I kept hoping that the phone would ring that Sunday with some news, but it never did. Monday, I was waiting again for the call. Finally, I decided to call myself. I called the resort and I was directed to security. I described the necklace and to my surprise and relief, he said he had it. He asked me if I wanted it mailed. I responded immediately, that we were going to come and get it. They had not correlated all the missing reports with the items found yet. The place is huge and they had a lot of events, and guests that had been golfing. They had many items that were found and turned in.”
Little received her necklace back, thankful to the stranger who found it and returned.
Little said, “I am so grateful to that person. I would have liked to have known who it was to thank them personally. It’s a good feeling to know that there are good people like this person who found and turned my necklace in.”
