Marilyn Berendt, President of the Sun City Board, announced Barry Newman’s resignation from the board at the opening of the March 23 Board meeting.
My Sun Day News contacted Newman for a comment regarding his resignation. The paper received the following response:
“I have resigned from the Sun City Board. It was a difficult but necessary decision. There are fiduciary duties that come with Board service, one of which is to support Board decisions. If there are significant Board decisions that a Board member cannot support, it is their obligation to resign. So, it was for me. My response to questions from the community is that since the decisions necessitating my resignation did not arise in open session, confidentiality precludes specificity about them,” he said.
