SUN CITY – In June, 2022, the Sun City Board reviewed proposals for a new sign at the recently renamed Veterans Memorial Field. The initial designs were six feet tall and nine feet wide and came in at $85,000. Board President Berendt commented “I’m shocked at the price.” Board Member McGouey asked “what are our options?”

The board requested that the Strategic Planning and Advisory Committee (SPAC) for new, less expensive designs. At the July board meeting SPAC submitted new options that ranged in cost from $8,380 to $30,000. The $8,380 option, which was selected, was for the replacement of the lettering on the existing “monument” sign.

Board Member Howard commented that “the sign at the Normandy Beaches is very simple and we should keep ours simple as well.”

The new lettering is in place as Veterans Day is recognized. The insignia of each service is included at the base of the sign. Revised landscaping will be planted in the future.
