What do ducks do when they’re out of the water? They play and eat, of course. What do Stingray Swim Club members do when they’re out of the water? They play and eat, of course. On Friday, June 17, sixteen members of Sun City’s swim club, a family member, and a friend, traveled to Ten Chimneys in Southeastern Wisconsin. Here they enjoyed a two-hour tour of the estate of Alfred Lunt and Lynne Fontanne, often acknowledged as the “First Couple Of The American Theatre.” The married couple, Alfred and Lynn, only accepted to perform in plays where they were together in the endeavor. They also refused to act in any play taking place during June through August because Six Chimneys, their summer bucolic home, became a playground for them and their close theatre friends. Among these acquaintances were Katherine Hepburn, Sir Laurence Olivier, and Helen Hayes. In 2003, Ten Chimneys was awarded the title of “National Historic Landmark.” The road trip, led by Social Chairman Lisa Yost, concluded with a luncheon held at the Red Geranium Restaurant in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Other outstanding social activities sponsored by the Stingrays and organized by Lisa and her Co-Social Chairman, Joanie Koplos, occur throughout the year. Anyone interested in joining the Stings is encouraged to “look us over” at our monthly meetings.
