SUN CITY – âItâs the blend of our two voices that reminds you of that sound,â said AJ Swearingen, one half of the tribute band to Simon & Garfunkelâs music.
At 7 p.m. on Monday, July 12, Swearingen and bandmate Jonathan Beedle will take the quiet stage at Drendel Ballroom with nothing but their two voices and a single guitar and relive the music of Simon & Garfunkel for Sun City residents.
âDefinitely for a lot of people, itâs a walk down memory lane,â Swearingen said. âIt brings back a lot of memories, what weâre doing.â
Swearingen provides the guitar and vocals of Paul Simon, while Beedle takes after Art Garfunkel. However, Swearingen said, âIâm not manipulating my voice to sound like Paul Simon, and Jonathan isnât forcing his voice to sound like Art Garfunkel. We like to call [ourselves] more a Simon & Garfunkel retrospective.â

Swearingen and Beedle will perform Simon & Garfunkelâs classic hits, as well as their more obscure music, bringing Sun City Simon & Garfunkel fans back to the sound of Simon & Garfunkelâs early years in Greenwich Village.
âWe are really doing the music justice. For me and Jon, thatâs our goal. To just really channel it. Youâre doing really good music, so you have to really have your [game] together. And when itâs just a guitar and two voices, youâre out there naked like that. Itâs very challenging. And it never gets boring to us,â said Swearingen. âWe love the music, and we hope that that comes through.â
