So, the HuntleyPatch did a survey of the best Chinese food in McHenry County and the winner is … Gourmet House?

huntley.patch.com/articles/the-chowdown-showdown-chinese-food-champion-is

For the record, I totally disagree. First of all, Bob and I have never heard of Gourmet House.

Secondly, we do go out for Chinese (and usually judge it by their Egg Foo Yung) and still never heard of Gourmet House.

Thirdly, Chen’s is 2nd??? Who is voting in this poll… the Chen family?

Fourthly, Plum Garden (which tied for 3rd) is by far the BEST hands down, but is a little farther to go from Huntley, Algonquin, and Crystal Lake…otherwise, it would have won.

Believe me, the place is always crowded with eat-ins and take-outs. Perry Moy is the best!

Fifthly (is that a word?) We like China Bistro okay, but why didn’t they mention Lily Garden? (Maybe it’s in a different county?)

And last but not least- The Breakers is good but doesn’t do separate checks, so that leaves out about anyone in Sun City, Huntley… they don’t want to pay for their neighbor’s expensive

tastes (lobster anyone?) and/or their alcoholic drinks (I’ll have another Mai Tai).

So … if Gourmet House is so good, why haven’t my friends and I (who enjoy Chinese food) ever even heard of it? Well, maybe we’ll try it and let you know what we think. Should be interesting!

Hi greengeezer,

I made your dressing recipe for my family’s Thanksgiving dinner and it was delicious. It was similar to my grandmother’s recipe but didn’t have the added grapes and apples. Also instead of just the turkey neck meat, I boil chicken wings to give me some added meat to put in the stuffing I don’t stuff the turkey with. The grapes and apple gave the dressing a more moist and slightly sweet flavor that I liked. Thanks so much for your recipe.

Dear Editor,

Here is another incident involving dogs in Sun City. I live in N.29, and sometime during the night of the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, dog droppings were scattered across the center of the sidewalk in front of my house from lot line to lot line.

One of my neighbors, who took an early morning walk around the block, said that he had encountered other locations that were apparently targeted by the same person(s).

I’ve had my dog since February 2009. When I walk him, I always pick up after him, and I hadn’t been walking him since September.

The police have been called and this incident has been reported to them.

May I add that I favor a dog park for Sun City?

Sincerely,
Barbara Hopper
