Building location topic of Township meeting

By Chris La Pelusa

HUNTLEY — Grafton Township will host their Annual Town Meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 in the central gym of Huntley High School. The meeting is open to all registered voters residing in Grafton Township. Pam Fender, Grafton Township administrator, said voters will follow a strict agenda, focusing almost entirely on the township building and its location.

Township residents will have the opportunity to vote on decisions that will affect the three options for the future of Grafton Township’s premises: whether Township offices will remain in their present, outdated location at 10109 Vine St. in Huntley; or Township will purchase a plot of open land on Haligus Rd., just north of Reed Rd., to build the popularly termed $3.5 million design; or Township will purchase and move into an existing commercial unit for sale that would require minimal renovation and upgrades, according to Fender.

Following the voting confusion of last year’s town meeting, in which yellow slips were held up for manual counting, Fender assured that a new balloting system is in place for this year’s meeting to ensure voting accuracy.

Fender stressed the importance of community turnout for the meeting to determe the future of Grafton Township’s successful operation.

Attending residents need to come to the meeting with proof of Grafton Township residence, which can be a driver’s license or utility bill.

The day before the Annual Town Meeting, Grafton Township is also offering an open house between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday, April 12 in the current location.
