Concerned about your Social Security? Medicare? How about the economy and jobs for your family? What about taxes? Many seniors in the Huntley area are worried and frustrated. What can one do to protect and strengthen those important elements? You canāt do it alone. So, in these times of economic instability and political combativeness, where can you turn to successfully address such issues including public education, womenās rights, and the restoration of the middle class?
Huntley Seniors for Progressive Action is a group of principally Sun City residents who support the 2012 re-election of President Obama and the election of a supporting Congress. They also focus on key ongoing legislation by reviewing, evaluating, and communicating information to their fellow residents about the proposed solutions of the candidates and parties involved. They engage in serious and respectful dialog with citizens across the political spectrum while discussing solutions to the challenges facing our country in the 21st century.
HSPA has the following stated short- and long-term goals:
Re-elect President Obama
Work to elect Congressional candidates who will support the Presidentās agenda
Provide Sun City residents with information about the issues important to seniors and the future of America
Develop a means to inform residents about current legislation that needs the peopleās support
Encourage seniors to communicate regularly with Senators and Representatives about the important issues facing the nation and especially seniors
To continue after the 2012 election to provide members with information about the issues and legislation important to seniors.
To continue after the 2012 election to provide seniors with a forum at which to present their concerns to their Representatives, both federal and state.
Huntley Seniors for Progressive Action have developed information addressing the deficit, national security, Social Security, veterans affairs, education, the environment and energy, Medicare, Medicaid, the Supreme Court, jobs, and health-care reform. They plan to continue to update and address these and new issues as things change. This information will soon be available on the internet or in paper copy at HSPA General Meetings.
Huntley Seniors for Progressive Action seeks the active participation of Huntley seniors in supporting the current Administrationās efforts to save and protect our economy, Social Security, Medicare, and similar benefits that impact Sun City and area residents. In addition to reaching out in their neighborhoods, they also hold General Meetings to provide information and a forum for local officials to present their positions on current issues. The monthly General Meetings serve as well to energize fellow residents to stay engaged in the governmental effort by contacting their representatives to demand that they save and protect our well-earned benefits while restoring the national and state economy to its strong pre-Bush state.
Huntley Seniors for Progressive Actionās next scheduled General Meeting is Thursday, February 9 at 6 p.m. at the Willow Room of the Huntley Park District REC Center at Deicke Park [12015 Mill Street]. If you wish to join, contact Linda Youngren at lindayoungren@sbcglobal.net.
