MY SUN DAY NEWS

Proudly Serving the Community of
Sun City in Huntley

Hang Your Hat: February 9, 2012

By My Sunday News

Jim Darrow’s Jan. 28 letter was very well written with his accolades bestowed on SunCPAC.

When we moved here in 2006, we were overwhelmed with the meaningful data and information put forth by SunCPAC, all of which was never available in Chicago or Cook County.

SunCPAC’s never-ending and conscientious efforts indeed provided our community with most meaningful and in-depth information that all residents could use and, importantly, with efficiency of time. They deserve our most meaningful Thank You and we regret their disbandment.

However, let us not despair: PTAG (Property Tag Action Group) is here, which started in the Spring of 2011. We are striving to not only provide what SunCPAC did, but other benefits as described in the Jan. 12 Sun Day issue. Also, an example, Steve Bytnar, one of our committee members, provided most valuable information in his article “Reduce taxes with exemptions” in the recent Jan. 28 Sun Day issue. This consolidation of information is something you will not find anywhere else.

Please look for our endeavors in the coming weeks and months, and if you can, we’d welcome your visit to our booth in the Charter Club Expo in April.

Thank you,

Ron Ghilardi

Gatehouse use at Sun City Huntley

Your article takes me back to when we visited Sun City and decided to move here back in 2004. There seemed to be a theme of water and plants. At the front entrance, we saw the tumbling water on the south side of the entrance. Farther on was the cascade of water over the rocks and the pond shooting water high above the pavilion pond. Then there was the white fencing and plant growth, which added to the beauty of Sun City. The only eye sore was the gatehouse, which appeared to serve no function.

I am glad that consideration is being given to what to do with the gatehouse. I would like to suggest that it be torn down and replaced with plantings and water display. I assume the gatehouse has water lines and power lines. Keep these and add a type of large water fountain with shooting water. Install a display light. All this would complement the Sun City beautiful water and plant theme.

There were 2 separate colums in your paper from the Huntley Seniors for Progressive Action which I’d like to comment on. One is the statement “it is necesary for President Obama to have a Congress that works with him and not opposes his every attempt to address problems”. First of all, the role of the House of Representatives and Senate is not to be “Yes men” to the president. By the way the Democrats do control the Senate. You also might be interested to know the Republicans passed 30 job bills and a budget, however, Harry Reid (in the Democratic-controlled Senate) refused to bring to the floor for a vote. My other comment is on, “Learn how we can keep Medicare, Social Security, and protect veterans’ healthcare”. They’re not going any place for our generation. I’m sure our children or grand children retirement years will be pushed back farther. Pensions, well I guess it depends what pension your talking about. Possibly in years to come they too will have to change. Workers will probably have to take out 40l’K’s, create bank savings, insurance policies, annunities, etc. I do know this household would much prefer less government, which means less taxes. The majority of the Republicans are trying to keep the money jar closed and the Democrats always find a way to wrench it open. Just look at President Obama’s latest giveaway; Mortgage Payback! Where is that money coming from? Of course, the taxpayer. What’s next? How about forgiving all those delinquent fathers, how about forgiving all the student loans over the last 10 years, and why doesn’t President Obama just give every adult a new car? That’s one way to be sure he won’t have to forgive their car payments own the road a piece.
