Does your holiday table say WOW?

By Kay Clark

Have you been thinking about how you are going to set up and adorn your Easter Holiday table? Linda Cogdill’s (N.10A) business, Design One Interiors, Ltd., has been in the Sun City community for the last seven years, and can help you with all kinds of festive ideas. In 1999 Linda received her Associate Degree in Interior Design, and since then she enjoys exercising her creative side, utilizing different accessories to beautify the home, including what she calls “Over the Top Table Tops.”

In November 2011, Linda discovered she had this natural talent for table decoration and has created numerous centerpieces since then, using large candles, floral pieces, and for Valentine’s Day, she used cherubs and hearts on her tables.

“I try to raise the height of the decoration,” commented Linda, for visual interest. “I’ve done work at the Arlington Design Center in Arlington Heights and Sweet Repeats in Huntley, where I stage the displays at the store and [do] furniture arranging, as well as the Pioneer Center, which is a non-profit organization that helps abused women and the people work with teens there also.”

At Sweet Repeats, she created a beautiful two-person table with linens, candles and floral.

In addition to Valentine’s Day tables, Linda has done Thanksgiving and Christmas tables.

Before becoming an interior designer, Linda changed careers for a few years, looking for that special something, after finishing a twenty-three-year career in Information Technology. Interior Design grabbed her interest and appealed to her creative side. As an interior designer, she works with different design elements and accessorizing with paint, wallpaper, as well as the technical aspect in spacing a plan. She must be aware of the construction of the home when conveying a design concept to a client and likes to draw two- and three-dimensional designs to present to the client before finalizing plans.

Linda has also worked at Marshall Field’s helping a customer furnish their whole townhome in Chicago. She has done window treatments and drapery for her neighbors in Sun City and helped with furniture selection.

“I’m particularly proud of my [personal] bedroom furnishings,” Linda stated. “You have to have an affinity for natural design—technical planning.”

Linda looks forward to doing Event Planning, including weddings, showers–baby and bridal–birthdays, retirement parties, and working up banquet spaces. For weddings she can assist in creating a delicious sweet table. She hones her skills doing fun personal projects, like decorations for a small ceremony in their own ome.

So what does Linda enjoy most about her work?

“Creating something for my clients that works for them. I enjoy creating spaces for decorating to their tastes,” she says. “I like the ‘WOW’ effect for my guests.” And she certainly delivers!
