John Michael Coppola brings his Jersey story to Sun City

By Brad Wagner

SUN CITY – The whole world is bathed in the music of springtime. That sentiment couldn’t be truer than on Wednesday, June 6, when Sun City will be bathed in the musical stylings of John Michael Coppola from “Jersey Boys” fame.

Coppola will be performing his “A Jersey Voice” show at 2 and 6 p.m in Sun City. Anticipation for this event has been so strong that the 6 p.m. show is already sold out. In fact, Coppola’s show has sold out everywhere it has been performed. Tickets for the 2 p.m. matinee show can be ordered by calling 847-515-7650.

Coppola always knew that performing was in his blood.

“I grew up in a pretty musical household,” Coppola said. His father performed in theater both in high school and college. While refining his talents, Coppola realized it was time to try to make a living out of his love.

Coppola was with Jersey Boys for the entirety of the show’s run and began his solo show about a year and a half ago. He will be performing songs from the 1940s all the way up to modern day favorites.

The title of Coppola’s solo show, “A Jersey Voice,” resonates not only with Coppola’s previous work, but his life as well.

“The title comes from that fact that Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen came from New Jersey, and I was living in Jersey when I got the call to be in Jersey Boys,” said Coppola. “[The title] is the journey of my life and career before, during, and after my time with Jersey Boys.”

Back in January, Sun City was treated to a Jersey Boys tribute band called Project Two. This band got the distinct pleasure to be able to perform with Coppola on one condition:

“I’ll only [perform] with you guys if you come back and sing with me,” Coppola said.

Dylan Ladd, one of the founders and voices of Project Two, recalled his first experience with Coppola.

“It was really cool. It was exciting to be able to do that because Jersey Boys had been such a big impact on me. To be able to have the opportunity to sing with somebody that I had looked up to from a young age really meant a lot,” Ladd said. Coppola will be performing several numbers with Project Two.

There is a reason that every one of Coppola’s performances have sold out. To find out why, be sure to clear your calendar for Wednesday, June 6.
