Sinatra’s life to be chronicled at Sun City

By Kay Clark

SUN CITY – We all know him; he’s a household name and perhaps the greatest entertainer of the 20th century. I’m referring to Frank Sinatra, and on June 29, at 10 a.m. in the Fountain View Center, Hyman Speck will be presenting a PowerPoint show narrating the biography and showcasing the career of “Frank Sinatra, The Life and Loves of America’s Greatest Entertainer.”

Speck, an educator, historian, and docent is a retired college professor with over 40 years of teaching experience at every educational level from head-start through graduate school. He also taught one of the first TV computer classes on WTTW.

Hyman has presented over 100 programs in the past five years at churches, synagogues, fraternal organizations, libraries, senior centers, and retirement homes. Just last week he gave a program to the Freedom Home for the Blind in Chicago.

“They had limited vision, but their hearing was acute, and they still enjoyed the program. There were about 30 people in attendance,” Hyman said.

Hyman had been at the Wheeling Library recently and presented his program to 150 people, where it was also well received.

“For the past 16 years, I have been a volunteer docent with the Chicago Architecture Foundations giving tours through the Loop, on the Chicago River, and in Millennium Park,” Hyman said. “As an offshoot of these tours, I have created five narrated computer PowerPoint lectures entitled, ‘A Walk Through Millennium Park,’ ‘Chicago as Seen from the River,’ ‘Movers and Shakers; People Who Made Chicago, Chicago,’ and ‘Movers and Shakers, Part II.’ I love sharing my love for our great city with groups that normally don’t have the opportunity to experience it in person,” he said.

A new series is now in production entitled, “America’s Greatest Entertainers.” “’Frank Sinatra’ has been completed and ‘Sammy Davis’ is now nearing completion,” he added. During this month alone, Hyman is scheduled to present six presentations.

Hyman’s program traces Frank Sinatra’s career from the streets of Hoboken, New Jersey, to Hollywood and the showrooms of Las Vegas and includes film clips of Frank’s most memorable stage and screen performances.

Did you know Frank’s career spans six decades, with him appearing in over sixty movies, winning two Academy Awards, recording over 1800 records, 80 albums, winning 12 Grammys, starring in his own radio and TV shows, being awarded the Congressional Medal of Freedom, The Kennedy Center Honors, and performing in every major theatrical venue in this country and overseas? Come to Hyman’s presentation to learn even more!
