At the June 18 meeting, Dolores Kniola gave a presentation on the influence of France, Sweden, and Sunni Muslims on the culture of Poland. The history of Poland is very complex with the influence of neighboring countries, for better or for worse, over several centuries. This presentation touched on the history of French and Swedish royal family inter-marriage with Poland, wars, the Napoleonic era, and the presence of Sunni Muslims (Tatars) in Poland since the 14th century. It was informative and well received by the members.
Future events being planned include: a trip to see the Kane County Cougars play baseball, the annual picnic, and a miniature golf outing in September. To celebrate Polish American Heritage month in October, members and friends will visit the Polish Museum in Chicago. Watch for more information on these events in the coming weeks.
