SUN CITY — The Sun City Historians are facing a dilemma: find a new president by the end of December or the charter club is history.
Founding Club President Hermann Faubl served for six years but resigned three months ago for personal reasons. He remains a member of the Historians, now run by interim president Carl Hupert.
Hupert can only serve as interim president through December, and if the club has no president at that point, they must end operations and hand assets over to the CAM Board. As of now, Hupert has no plans to become president. No other members of the club have expressed interest either, said Vice President Fred Leznek, including himself.
“The president has his or her distinct responsibility, and the vice president has his distinct responsibility. It’s very difficult to divide [the president’s duties] up—that’s the way we’re structured,” Leznek said when asked if the president’s role could be split among members.
The primary role of the president is to find speakers for the club’s meetings on the third Friday of every month. It’s a task Leznek said Faubl had a knack for.
Leznek’s job as vice president is to write up pieces on the speaker and introduce the speaker to the club, as well as publishing club bulletins.
Leznek said the club has not yet tried reaching out to residents outside of the club, but he considered it a possibility.
“I’d be very sad to see it go because the Historians is a very popular club; we have a lot of people who are interested in coming to our sessions and listening to the wonderful speakers we’ve had over the years, so it would be a very big disappointment for me, a very big letdown,” Leznek said.
