Response to Eileen J. Prus’ article in August 30 Sun Day Politicalplace section
David Williams is a widely-read and informed individual and has stated the opinion of the Huntley Seniors for Progressive Action without denigrating people who hold opposing views. Stating one’s political opinions, even those espoused by “Fox News” devotees, should be allowed and encouraged, but personal attacks are out of place. We are lucky to enjoy the right of freedom of speech in this country and should be allowed to do so without being insulted. Contributors to this column should be reminded that good manners and common decency should be observed.

Huntley Seniors for Progressive Action September 13 general meeting
Huntley Seniors for Progressive Action invite Sun City residents to attend its General Meeting, September 13. At that meeting, HSPA will continue to work on developing its Election Forum. The 2012 Election Forum is to be held at the Cosman Center at the Park District on September 20. As of now, 14th Districtâs Dennis Anderson and 6th Districtâs Leslie Coolidge have agreed to appear, give a brief talk, and answer questions. It is an important event for Sun City residents. Bring your questions for the candidates.
With the Republican and Democratic Party conventions behind us by the 13th, we can take some time to look at the party platforms and make plans of how to best illustrate the differences. The benefits to seniors and women of the Democratic Party platform should be something we can bring to the attention of our fellow seniors.
So clear your calendars for September 13 and plan to attend. The HSPA General Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Huntley Park District Rec Center Multi-Purpose [Willow] Room on Thursday, September 13. Please come with your good ideas for our Election Forum.

Huntley TEA Party Now or Never Rally
The Huntley Area TEA Party will be holding a âNow or Never Rallyâ to help encourage people to become involved in the November election. The Rally will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. It will be on the corner of Del Webb Blvd. and Route 47 in Huntley near Culverâs.
The TEA Party stands for fiscal responsibility in government, free markets without excessive restrictive regulations, and constitutionally limited government. The TEA party believes that the Constitution should be the guide for our country and that the government should not intervene in every aspect of our lives.
Everyone is welcome. Please bring your lawn chairs, flags, posters, and come out to help us to restore our country and our freedom.
Based on the New York bestseller book by Dinesh D’Souza, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” a political documentary movie “2016” is now playing in movie theaters. Much to everyone’s surprise, it has taken in 9.1 million at North American theaters since opening last month.
I saw the movie with a friend last Saturday, and it makes one think very seriously as to how to vote in the coming election. As I talk to people here at Sun City, many are on the fence and confused as to which candidate is better. Google in “movie 2016” and find out where the theater closest to you is showing the film. No matter where you stand, it will clarify some major issues as to where our country is going. Do we want to be a socialistic nation or retain the freedom upon which our country was founded? See the movie and then decide.

I enjoy reading your paper and think it is a good service to Sun City residents. The information is both informative and fun. However, I’m also hoping that it is a fair newspaper. I was very upset to find an article presenting one point of view on the second page (right behind the front page). I’ve seen papers with editorials in which anyone is free to express their opinions. However, his article clearly told people to vote for President Obama and Joe Biden and didn’t identify itself clearly as one person’s opinion. Instead, it very much looked like your paper’s opinion.

I read the article written by David Williams in yesterday’s Sun Day. I don’t fully understand what he is saying, except that he does not like Romney or Ryan. His main complaint is that Ryan is wanting to kill Medicare. Now maybe Mr. Williams is much smarter than I am, and that is very possible, but my understanding of what Ryan is proposing is not to mess with Medicare for anyone 55 years and older. But he wants to address Medicare for those younger than 55. Good or bad? I don’t know until I hear the entire proposal. How can Mr. Williams assume Ryan’s plan is worse than Obama’s plan without getting the entire details?
If Mr. Williams believes that VP Biden is a better choice than Ryan, then I need to comment. In my opinion, VP Biden is only better when he keeps his mouth shut and when he takes naps while Obama is giving a speech. Let me know why he is better than any other VP candidate.
All I know right now is that we don’t need, or we could not survive another four years of Obama and his wonderful Obama Care. My Supplemental and RX plans are costing a lot more in the last two years – why? Because of Obama Care.
Thank you,

OMG – I can’t believe your paper printed this article, political place on page 2 dated Thursday Aug. 23. We all thought it was a non-political and non-religious Sun City paper. The statement needs to be researched and to tell we seniors that Medicare will not be touched for anyone 55 or better. Please keep the paper free from political and religious statements.
Sincerely,

I was dismayed at the content of your article “Who’s for Number Two” on August 23. “Scaring Seniors Yet Again” would have been a more accurate title. I realize that this type of disingenuous scaremongering has been an integral part of the Democratic platform for years; the author seems content to keep this format alive and well.
The reality of the situation is that it is Obama who is pillaging Medicare. In order to pay for Obamacare, over 600 million dollars will be swiped from Medicare to fund this new health care debacle that over half of the country doesn’t want anyway.
If you want to know why Obama is taking so much money out of Medicare to pay for Obamacare, maybe you can ask him as he tours one of the 57 states he alluded to during the last election. Good luck getting an honest answer from him.

This is my rebuttal of Mr. Williamsâ article printed in the last Sun Day.
Paul Ryan is not the âarchitect of the Republican plan to kill Medicare.â Looking at factcheck.org, the article by the Annenberg Public Policy Center states that the often-quoted figure of $6,000-plus that seniors would have to pay for premiums is old information going back to 2010. Under the new plan, there will be no changes for those 55 and older. However, for new beneficiaries, beginning in 2033, theyâd choose a health plan from a new Medicare exchange. This would offer both traditional Medicare and private plans. Congressman Ryan built in many safeguards to keep future costs down. The Congressional Budget Office has not yet conducted a detailed analysis of the latest plan. As you may know the CBO is non-partisan and they correctly predicted that Americaâs credit rating would be downgraded.
I havenât even mentioned yet the $716 billion that President Obama plans to cut from Medicare in order to pay for his Affordable Care Act. Read John McDonoughâs book, Inside National Health Reform, in which he looks at all the various Medicare cuts which would be required.
Now for more updated information: Paul Ryan was picked as Governor Romneyâs running mate August 11. Since that time polls in four crucial swing states are as follows: Ohio- Romney up by two points, Virginia – Romney up three points, Florida – Romney up by one point, and Colorado- President Obama up by three points. It looks like seniors in Florida are not turned off by Paul Ryanâs realistic budget plan for the future.
A very recent forecast by the CBO tells us that things will get worse after 2013 as scheduled tax increases and spending cuts could push the country back into recession and unemployment could reach 9 percent. We live in perilous times, and if we do not make wise choices in November they could get worse.
Our national debt has reached 15 trillion-plus and counting. If the governmentâs reckless spending isnât curtailed and reversed, it will have a profound effect on our children and their children.
I believe this is the most important election to be held in our lifetime, and I encourage everyone to educate herself or himself. Donât take the political ads (from both sides) to be factual. Read books by people who research their facts, listen to talk radio, and listen to a variety of TV channels in order to make informed choices.
An informed citizenry is vital to a successful democracy.
