Dan Proft is a renowned writer and political commentator, entrepreneur, former Republican candidate for governor, and weekday morning radio talk show co-host with Bruce Wolf for WLS AM890 in Chicago. Mr. Proft works as a senior fellow at the Illinois Policy Institute, a free market think tank in Chicago. He is a regular guest on local and national public affairs programs.
Dan will speak about the Illinois Opportunity Project that seeks to educate the public
about public policy that is driven by the principles of liberty and free enterprise, and on the state of Illinois spending, debt, deficits, and where do we go from here.
Steve Beaman is a successful entrepreneur and subject matter expert on the U.S. economy. Huntley Seniors for Progressive Action
With both partyâs national conventions behind us, it is time to get to work actively supporting our choice candidates from President Obama to candidates for local office. To prepare for such active support, a good start will be to attend the Huntley Seniors for Progressive Action 2012 Election Forum on September 20. It will be held at the Cosman Center Auditorium in the Huntley Park District REC Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. Candidates Leslie Coolidge [14th Congressional District] and Dennis Anderson [6th Congressional District] will address issues and answer questions so we get a better understanding of what can be done. To attend, you must register by emailing your name and the number of people attending in your group to huntleyproactive@gmail,com. The time to register is now.
Recent history shows that a split between Congress [House of Representatives] and the Executive [president] can bring all progress to a halt. So, while HSPA actively supports President Obamaâs re-election, it also strongly supports the election of a Congress that will work with the president and pass important legislation. We canât move forward if one branch of government refuses to pass necessary legislation. So, we strongly support Dennis Anderson, Leslie Coolidge and other Democrats candidates. We canât fix things with a broken government. Such support is as important as a vote for the president. Thus, even if you canât join us on September 20, plan to get out and vote for the Democratic ticket on Election Day.

From time to time the Supreme Court rules on a question of whether our income tax is constitutional. They always rule it as constitutional, no matter what argument is presented. They always imply that the supplicant is a little goofy or not really serious, and generally they are correct.
The latest was that the 13th Amendment, which freed the slaves that the Emancipation Proclamation, was relevant because it made taxpayers give their labor involuntarily. They ruled it not relevant because the 16th amendment was passed after the 13th amendment, and that the framers of the 13th could not have possibly meant to prohibit something that wasn’t heard of at the time.
Well let’s find an argument that was in place before the thirteenth and has been invoked over and over. Since only about a third of the population pays any income taxes, the burden of paying for 100 percent of the expenses falls onto them. This is unequal protection under the law. Has anyone ever presented this argument. Equal protection is a real reason to void the income tax and find a new “constitutional tax” to finance government spending.
I am sure the Supreme Court would find that frivolous also, because if they ever got serious about it, about a hundred million people who oppose any change in the Marxist 16th Amendment would drum them, and any politician who supported them, out of town. (20 million get a direct benefit from the filing and paying of the income tax, and with their extended family and friends, it mounts up to the 100 million I mentioned.)

Veteran police commander bill prim declares candidacy for sheriff; vows to reconnect office with the people of McHenry
Veteran Police Commander and longtime McHenry County resident Bill Prim announced Wednesday that he will be a candidate for the Republican nomination for McHenry County
Sheriff in 2014, running on a platform of reforming and revitalizing the Sheriffâs Office.
Prim, who recently retired from the Des Plaines Police Department after a 27-year continuous career, said the McHenry County Sheriffâs Office desperately needs to
break from its recent practices and forge a new identity based firmly upon the principles of accountability; improved community relations; and a new emphasis on tapping volunteer enthusiasm.
The 20-year Cary resident brings with him a wealth of experience and decades-long ties to other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. He vowed to repair the tattered fabric of relationships between the MCSO and other county agencies and their leadership.
âThe Sheriffâs Office needs to work with and alongside other county departments,â Prim said. âNo good has come out of all this constant intra-county friction.â
Similarly, Prim said, the various web of relationships with state and federal agencies needs rebuilding, not least because they can become the sources of much-needed funding, as can asset forfeiture (confiscation of funds and tangible assets from criminal defendants), a practice in which Prim is an acknowledged expert.
