It was 1964 that I left the hospital field about ready to deliver my first child. In my heart I knew that I could never return to dietetics the way it was practiced. For a short time, I kept up my registration as a dietitian, going to all the required seminars. In 1959 I had become a “born again Christian,” accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.
As I studied my Bible, I learned that God gave us fresh fruit and vegetables to eat(Genesis 1:29). At the same time, I started searching for answers to wellness by visiting health food stores, subscribing to newsletters written by alternative doctors, chiropractors and nutritionists, and attending wellness seminars. Later, the many teachers on the web were invaluable.
For the next 40 years, I gathered much information. From my study, I concluded that what I learned in the hospital was to practice disease control. On the gastrointestinal unit, we did not make the problem better by healing the intestinal tract. We simply kept it from being further irritated by serving bland foods and administering drugs.
In order for healing to take place, the body needed whole food that had nothing added or taken away from it. It could not be processed but as close to nature as possible.
The pieces of the puzzle were coming together.
