Alexa Scimeca, the figure skater featured in “A Heart of Gold” back in the Feb. 28 edition of the Sun Day, has done it yet again.

She and her partner Christopher Knierim placed ninth in the world in pairs skating at the International Skating Union World Figure Skating Championships in London, Ontario, Canada. They earned 173.51 points and were the only pair from the U.S. in the top 10.
Though she and Knierim have more work to do, they are well on their path toward earning a place in the 2014 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Sochi, Russia.
Of course, all this good news has made Sun City residents Mike and Cookie Schellerer two very proud grandparents.
“To know she turned into this wonderful athlete, it’s really an honor,” Cookie said.
Cookie also called her granddaughter’s pairing with Knierim “a blessing.”
“We just couldn’t be more proud of her and Chris,” she said.
