Project Two reunites for Christmas show at HHS
HUNTLEY – Dylan Ladd wasn’t sure Project Two would stay together post-high school. But he has Sun City to partially thank as the group prepares to reunite for an upcoming show.
“We were on our ‘Farewell Tour,’ so to speak, and we were all prepared to say our goodbyes and go our separate ways. We all love music and this group, but we would all be going to different colleges and majoring in different things,” Ladd said.
Enter Sun City.
“This was our third performance in the community, and the residents have just always been so supportive of us. It just created so many personal feelings among all of us where we realized we should stay together. This community has been the most supportive thing for us,” he added.
Though there are no upcoming performances scheduled for Sun City, Project Two is reuniting for “Home for the Holidays,” a Christmas concert at Huntley High School, where they formed in 2009.
The show will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28 in the Performing Arts Center and will benefit the school’s Thespian Troupe.
“We all were in theater and related activities, so it just seemed like a natural group to benefit. We didn’t want to do a concert on our own because it would require a lot of scheduling and planning, but we knew we wanted to do this concert. We wanted to give back to our school, in any way we could, and since most of us are continuing in art, too, we felt we owed something to our fine arts department,” Ladd said.
The concert will include two sets – the group’s standard performance and a special Christmas playlist, including songs “Winter Wonderland,” “O Holy Night,” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”
Ladd said the group wanted to try something different for this special occasion: “We’ve never done anything other than our regular show, but we wanted to make sure we brought our original stuff in.”
While the group is composed of roughly six singers and a five- to six-piece band, the holiday concert will increase the band by about 10 members. Ladd said this was needed to accompany some of the holiday songs they will perform, since “it calls for a big band setting. Some of these pieces require four trumpets, five saxophones, and four trombones, and our current numbers just don’t reflect that.”
The concert will offer about 25-30 songs and could last up to two hours, with a scheduled intermission. Tickets are still available at a rate of $5 for students and $10 for adults and can be purchased online at projecttwomusic. com.
Ladd hopes the show will sell out, but “we just want to fill it up as much as we can.” He adds that the group is hoping to get a video recorded of the performance to use for promotional purposes.
“If all works out, this will be our most memorable show yet. I’m so confident with the musicality aspect alone; the band sounds that good,” Ladd said.
