Geezer Moments: October 21, 2010

By Sam Geati

I’m starting today’s column with one from my travel senior softball days, when we would hold fundraisers to pay for our tournament entry fees. One night, at our candlelight bowl, our treasurer, Ray, was running a 50/50 raffle, which means the winner gets half of the ticket sales and the club keeps the other half. Ray had a serious brain cramp that night and forgot to divide the collected money in half and gave the entire amount to the lucky ticket holder. We still won’t let him forget that one.

Received a call from Ed Wozniak of N. 12, who told me this one about himself: Ed went to church recently and went into the confessional box. Normally, he would first say how long it’s been since his last confession. This is what came out of his mouth: “Bless me, Father, it has been 2 weeks since my last VACATION.” I’m sure Father was happy for him.

One of my tennis buddies told me that he and his wife recently pulled into their driveway after being gone all day, and his wife exclaimed, “Look at what the geese did to our lawn. I’ve never seen so much goose droppings in my life!” To which he responded, “Honey, we just had the lawn aerated.” I have to admit, I’ve had the same thought when looking at the lawns.

Finally, this scene has occurred too many times on the tennis courts here in Sun City:

First player: “What’s the score?”

Second player: “I think it’s deuce.”

Third player: “Can’t be; we’ve only played 2 points this game.”

Fourth player: “I think you are all wrong. Let’s just start the game over.”

That’s it for this week. Once again, please keep those “moments” coming. Send them to me at greengeezer9@comcast.net Looking forward to getting your emails.

Sammy
