The classic #1 health bestseller that exploded the sugar myth and inspired a health revolution is “Sugar Blues” by William Dufty (1975).
In “Sugar Blues,” Dufty says sugar is poison, more lethal than opium, and more dangerous than atomic fallout. It is also as addictive as alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes. When one considers all of the sugar in our processed foods, it is not difficult to see how people can be addicted; it is like falling into quicksand and not being able to get out.
Bloodwork is an indication of how healthy we are:
Normal cholesterol – 250 or below
HDL – 40 or above (with 50 or 60 excellent)
LDL – 100–129 is normal
Triglycerides – under 150
Blood pressure of 150/90 for years was good. (Then doctors started lowering it to 120/80. The recommendation today is even lower. This makes people need blood pressure medication. Try giving up the sugar and see what happens.)
Blood sugar – 80–100 mg/dl is good (110–125 mg/dl is pre diabetic, 125 mg/dl is a full-blown diabetic)
A good book on the above is “Protein Power” by Michael Eades, M.D. and Mary Eades, M.D. In it, the authors tell how just staying off sugar will lower blood values if higher than normal.
Many people go to the doctor for annual physicals or because they have an ailment and are not feeling well. Blood tests are an indication of where people should be. Sadly enough, if the figures are higher than the doctor wants them, medications will be given to force numbers down. In doing so, symptoms are being treated rather than getting at the source of the problem: lifestyle.
