Ailments fueled by sugar

By Norma Thompson

In addition to sugar being high on the glycemic index, it is completely void of nutrition, having had all of its vitamins, minerals, and fiber removed. We do better caring for our automobiles, making sure they get good fuel and oil than we do our bodies. According to a study done in 2013 by Suisse Research and reported by Dr. Mercola, 30 to 40 percent of U.S. health care expenditures are for diseases directly related to the consumption of sugar.

Dr. Robert Lustig, leading expert on childhood obesity, says the negative effects of sugar consumption can no longer be ignored any more than tobacco or alcohol.

Allergies – Spring is here and pollen is in the air. Now it is trees. In June it will be in the grass, in autumn it can be found in ragweed, and most of the year, it is in dust and mold. These substances get the blame for the seasonal and year round misery of hay fever and asthma suffered by many. People buy over-the-counter antihistamines, sometimes use prescription drugs, and when all else fails, doctors will subject the patient to desensitization shots containing all the substances to which they are allergic. Try instead to eliminate sugar from your diet.

Colds and flu – a number of people suffer relentlessly from these conditions. Much of this is attributed to a weakened immune system caused by sugar. If you think about it, germs are always around us, yet everyone does not get sick from them. Sugar also makes the body acid, and germs love this kind of environment.

We can’t go by a drug store without seeing the big promotion for getting flu shots. Dr. Mercola has on his website some good information on the possible harm of flu shots and how often they are not even effective. Seldom do people die from the flu as pharmacies would like you to believe. At most, the flu causes distress for one or two weeks and can be controlled by drinking lots of water, tea, and vegetable juices.
