The Cardiovascular System and Sugar (part 2)

By Norma Thompson

When we take sugar into our bodies, the pancreas secretes insulin. Insulin affects blood pressure, cholesterol, fat in the blood (better known as triglycerides), the arteries, heart disease, obesity, and strokes. It is a major cause of death and disability in America today. More than twice the number of Americans die each year than were killed in World War I, World War 2, the Korean and Vietnam wars combined.

It seems that just about everyone I come into contact with is either on Statin Drugs or blood pressure medication. Forcing blood pressure down by drugs without taking into consideration the excess of insulin produced by eating sugar has little effect on the progression of the disease. And many of the diuretics and beta blockers actually increase insulin levels, making matters worse, according to the book “Protein Power” by Michael and Mary Eades, M.D. There are no drugs that can reduce insulin levels; only diet will do it!

In the above book, there is a real testimony of how these doctors took someone with extremely abnormal blood levels off of all medication and changed her to a moderate protein and fat diet, having her give up all carbohydrates. Within six months all of her blood values were normal and she was one happy lady.

Excess insulin stimulates a wide variety of other metabolic issues:

— Encourages the kidneys to retain salt and fluid
— Stimulates the production of cholesterol by the liver
— Fuels an increase in triglycerides
— Thickens the muscular portion of the artery walls, making them less elastic; therefore narrowing them so blood has to pump harder and this increases blood pressure

Sends a message to fat cells to store excess sugar and fat in the vessels leading to a narrowing of tiny vessels in the eyes, brain and all over the body creating disease.
