“Soon, the faces of all the other people, they turn toward mine and they smile,” says Elwood. “And they’re saying, ‘We don’t know your name, mister, but you’re a very nice fella.’”

Sun City resident Cathy Kwon has the answers in her book “Cinderella the Next Chapter.”

More than 70 resident singers and musicians of Sun City Huntley will join together to produce some truly great choral music. This group has been a part of the entertainment activities of the Sun City community for more than 22 years.

Romero said, “I woke up one morning and had a dream of capturing the music influence that came from our state Illinois. I wanted to showcase the creative spirit of Illinois.”

Richard said, “I started playing the accordion. In the fourth grade, I started playing the organ, and in fifth grade, I joined the band. In high school, I was the lead percussionist. I played all percussions. I sang in the choir. I have perfect pitch.”

Franzen, based in Hanover Park, prides himself on being a versatile artist — he is an illustrator who also paints and works in metal, wood, and glass.

Three years ago, he discovered another medium for his art: pumpkins.

Linda Davis said, “We are happy that after a year and a half, all of our lead performers came back. We did have to find actors for the part of Chip. We have two grandchildren of the cast performing on alternate nights in that part. This group is a family, we have to work together, attend the rehearsals. There are so many parts and challenges to this play, but we have fun also.”

This is a big milestone for a Sun City event.

“We are excited to once again showcase the talent of Sun City. The event team will provide safety measures so all will be able to enjoy approximately 80 artisan vendors,” said resident Marsha Geist.

Mike Ptak hosts “Blues Is My Business” on Huntley Community Radio broadcasting as WHRU-LP on 101.5 FM, guiding his audience through a variety of blues songs and artists. He also entices the audience with the back story to those songs.

Ptak said, “My musical sense and taste in music is the sum of varied experiences growing up in the city, working on Chicago’s South Side for some time, and an appreciation of all people and their contributions. I have played keyboards professionally in various bands in many different venues.”

The show stars Oscar-winners Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons as Irene and Franklin York, a couple who discovers a chamber buried in their backyard that inexplicably leads them to a strange, deserted planet. The series follows the Yorks’ quest for answers to the mysterious chamber they’ve kept secret, as their quiet lives become upended when an enigmatic young man enters the picture.

The exception to the rest of the hallway is the Clayground and Ceramics Studio.

May said, “I finally realized what I wanted to be when I grew up. An author.”

While we may see an influx of pandemic-inspired novels after this worldwide crisis, Chay brings a unique perspective to living life and gives her readers a way to reach calmness in her collections of poems in her new book published this month, Life with Intention.

Roni Schmidt said, “I have been painting with Colleen for four years now. When I saw she was starting the online classes I was thrilled. I love them. Because of COVID and a recent surgery, I am stuck inside and painting keeps me calm. Time just flies when I am painting. The best thing about the online class is I can finish my painting and perfect it at my leisure. I even turned our den into my studio.”

“Vintage Voices was established under the leadership of then-President Myron Shellist and assisted by Bob Gienko, a board member. Allen Pollack was executive director of the station and first recording engineer for Vintage Voices shows. Jim Eggers has succeeded him.”

Friday night, Oct 4, TR Kerth will play a solo acoustic show on guitar and harmonica at Lucky Bernie’s in Huntley, from 7-9 p.m. The performance will feature songs that span many styles and generations, including folk, pop, rock, blues, country, Irish, reggae–and even a few quirky originals spawned from the mind of TR Kerth.

Despite formal training, Olson persists.

Sun City Dell Webb presented a Barry Manilow tribute show on Thursday, May 23. The Drendel Ballroom filled with residents and guests to enjoy the music of their youth. The tribute was advertised as: “No stranger to the tribute world, Jay Gates impersonation of Barry Manilow has ‘Fanilows’ agreeing that this act is rapidly becoming ‘the’ show to see! Be it the classic ‘Copacabana’ or the sing-along ‘Can’t Smile Without You’ or the show-stopping ‘Even Now,’ Jay’s Faithful representation of Barry’s voice, combined with a jaw-dropping visual portrayal and multi-media presentation, always leaves audiences wanting more!”

This year, two Sun City clubs joined together to share the experience of creating ceramic pieces with their grandchildren.

According to Cathleen Chay of the Clayground, the event was a success.
