AARP headlines alert us that reimagining our lives after retirement is definitely possible. We are told by the media to “kick start a new career” or “sustain yourself beyond retirement age.” Dr. Jose Sison, Neighborhood 1, definitely lives by this mantra: “Better late than never” or “Better still, it’s never too late.”Â
Any and all who attended Catholic school at some point in their life probably have a good story geared up for you, whether it was about a personal experience or something that happened to a friend. A musical heading toward Sun City, however, has taken those stories and transposed them to the stage, providing a âhumorous and touching view of growing up in Catholic school.â
When the Sun City Concert Band performs at Huntley High School, they do a lot more than just play music.
While the Sun City Strutters might be known for their grand annual performances, the dancers delight audiences in humbler arenas as well. The Sun City Strutters, composed of about 70 members who normally perform two large winter and spring dance events, also take their show on the road.
On Thursday, February 11, Tony Ocean and his band will kick off Valentineâs Day a few days early with a Valentineâs Dance at Sun City Huntley.
This Sunday, October 25, from 1-4 p.m. (before the little monsters haunt your Sun City doorstep howling for treats) you can do a bit of your own howling at Huntleyâs Pub 47 âHalloween Monster Mash.â
For those who attend the Theatre Company of Sun Cityâs upcoming production of âOklahoma!â a sense of dĂ©jĂĄ vu may set in. This is because Bob Hernandez and Sara Tustin, whose names are attached to many characters throughout the companyâs history, are once again reprising their roles as Curly McLain and Laurey Williams, respectively, after 10 years.
Sun Cityâs Art and Crafts Faire is not only for Sun City residents, but by them as well.

Last year, the Sun City Concert Band brought in over 500 people with their concert featuring their greatest hits from their last 10 years of practicing. However, much has changed since last year’s performance, according to the group president, Jerry McClellan.
Ushering in the sounds of the season, the Sun City Prairie Singers are set to perform their annual holiday concert this December, complete with standard classics and new twists.
Variety is the spice of life â and soon it will be the spice of Sun City. MC Glamour, an energetic, two-woman variety act, will hit The Cosman Theater in Huntley this holiday season with its new show, âA Smile For Christmas.â
Author Washington Irving once said of Christmas that it is a âseason for kindling the fire for hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart.â And on December 4, members of the Sunflower Garden Club of Sun City will do just that, as the group hosts its fifth annual Holiday House Walk from 3 to 7 p.m. and five Sun City residents open their doors to the anticipated 300 eventgoers.
Fortunate Sons will be coming to Sun City for the second time Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Drendel Ballroom. The band formed in 2009 and strives to emulate Creedence Clearwater Revival, a rock band that reached peak popularity in the 1960s and 70s.
Huntley Community Radio, which for the last two years has been broadcasting over the Internet airwaves, has received its low-power FM license from the Federal Communications Commission to officially broadcast as WHRU-LP on 101.5 FM, turning what was once an idea for co-founder Allen Pollack into a reality.
Although it is only October, the Theater Company of Sun City is already dreaming of a âWhite Christmas.â
As Halloween approaches, the Grandma, Grandpa and Me Club make their preparations for their annual Halloween party. This year, the party falls on Sunday, Oct. 26 from 1-3 p.m. at the Fountain View Center.
The Prairie Voices will celebrate their 10th anniversary with a special concert on Monday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Drendel Ballroom. This ensemble of accomplished singers gave their first performance on Aug. 25, 2004, on the same stage. The original group of 12 singers has grown over the years to 23 members.
Progressing from a small, shoestring ensemble to a full-sized string orchestra, the Anthony Kawalkowski Orchestra is back to perform in Sun City.
Heading to Sun City tonight (September 11) for the first time is DJ Jay Frank, and it’s his intention to get you to Dance the Night Away with him.
Entertaining audiences everywhere from Soldier Field to the House of Blues, the tribute band Blooze Brothers will return to Sun City this September withâElwoodâ and âJakeâ at the helm.
Those dreaming of becoming a pilot can take the first steps toward attaining that goal on Sept. 13 in Ringwood, as the Chain O’Lakes Eagles hosts its 2014 R/C Air Fest.
