A subdued 4th for Huntley

The reports came in from all over the country. A CBS affiliate in the Denver area reported a substantial increase in firework reports over the Fourth of July, as did local papers in Dayton, Ohio and Lincoln, Nebraska. But in Huntley, and much of the surrounding area, people are saying that the last few weeks have been comparatively firework-free.

‘Trespassers’ welcomed

Due to the Coronavirus concerns, the Sunflower Garden Club has canceled the annual Resident Garden Walk this year. The club is doing its part in social distancing and following the Board’s mandates. But nine Sun City residents have opened up their beautiful gardens for the Community.

Contact tracing

Both Kane and McHenry County Health Departments are awaiting word from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) on grants for additional funding of contact tracing. Each county sent their plans on exactly how they would use the yearlong grant for their respective contact tracing program.

Lupo on probation after sentencing [updated 5/19]

The Kane County Circuit Clerk’s office says Jennifer Lupo is serving two years on probation. The judgment order for the former finance manager of Sun City Huntley staff also called for 20 days in the Kane County Jail.

The Theatre Company for years has donated the proceeds from the candy and water sales during our productions to the area Food Pantries. Living snow fence program reduces risk of drift

It is no secret that winters in Illinois are brutal. Besides freezing temperatures and unpredictable snowfall posing hazardous conditions for drivers, residents of rural populated areas, including portions of McHenry County, face the added danger of snow drift.

Candidates speak about McHenry County Coroner’s Office future

Can’t be a surprise all three candidates for McHenry County Coroner believe the Coroner post should remain an elected position. At the recent Coroner’s Forum at McHenry County College, Mark Justen, Angela Byrnes, and Michael Rein confirmed they are opposed to appointment of a full-time medical examiner. A referendum on November 3 asks voters to decide whether the coroner should be elected or appointed.

On Wednesday, February 19, the Huntley Area Public Library Board of Trustees held its official groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion and renovation project, for which a $12.9 million bond was approved by voters on April 2, 2019.

Lazaro Reynoso, 41, is known in his community in Elgin as being generous and hardworking. The owner of a recycling business, he was frequently known to invite people who were down on their luck to have breakfast with him at a McDonald’s.

On the horizon

The Village of Huntley is so busy with economic development these days that it is being sued and pursued by corporate America at the same time.

Nearly 20 business and industrial building projects are proposed, underway, or about ready to open as the year 2020 dawns. The “Friendly Village with Country Charm” is welcoming and expanding throughout the community. The village and landowners at the former Huntley Outlet Mall property are battling in a Woodstock court on the question of industry or retail at the site.
