Solar power in Sun City started earlier than originally thought

Donna Badame’s home in Neighborhood 27 became solar powered this summer.

“I had 14 solar panels installed on the south side of my roof in the middle of June,” Badame said. “They were put in before my birthday. It was a present I bought for myself.”

Exemptions may be complicated, but help is available

For the past couple of months, people in McHenry County were talking about the 50th anniversary of the moon landing probably as much as they were talking about Valley Hi and the Homestead Exemption. For the moon landing, we remembered where we were on July 20, 1969. For the Homestead Exemption tied to surplus funds of the Valley Hi Nursing Home, we probably can’t get quite as excited, though getting a rebate check for $100 to $200 dollars is pretty good.

Sun City couple switches to solar power

Linda Robinson and her husband, Jim, recently became the first homeowners in Sun City Huntley to have solar panels installed on their roof.

“We got the idea a few months ago when our daughter, Nicole, who lives with her husband in Crystal Lake, said they were getting solar panels on their home,” Linda said. “Our son-in-law is an engineer and one of the smartest people I know, so that increased our motivation to follow suit.”

Library Receives $125K Live & Learn Construction Grant

The Huntley Area Public Library was awarded a $125,000 Live & Learn Construction grant by the office of the Secretary of State after scoring a perfect score of 10. The application was submitted in January of 2019 in hopes of securing funds for a much-needed roofing project for the nearly 22-year-old building.

MCRide Announces 2019 Service Expansion

MCRide, the county’s dial-a-ride service, will ring in the new year with the addition of Sunday rides and an increased service area. Starting January 1, riders will be able to use MCRide from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The service area also will expand to include Fox River Grove, as well as three new destinations.
