In 2019, Del Webb Sun City is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and while for many this is an opportunity to reflect on the past, many see it as an important opportunity to look to the future.

Mayo Clinic’s Health Letter from February explains that “Memories of past painful experiences can influence your current experiences.”

For example, a strong remembrance of past pain at your dentist office does not help any new pain threshold about to be realized there. Mayo continues, “And pain itself can predispose you to more pain.”

Pioneer Center helps homeless community through art

In Illinois, there are 10,798 people homeless on a given night; 8.4 homeless per 10,000 people in the general population. Half of the homeless population is outside of Chicago; nearly one thousand in the Western suburbs of Kane, McHenry Aurora, and Elgin.

Two paws up for new Huntley doggy daycare

“We are just dog people,” Red Linder said. Linder, along with co-owner Cat Gyiraszin, opened The Barking Lot Indoor Dog Park & Daycare in Huntley last December, and many Sun City residents have taken advantage of the new facility.

A gift for grief

“Our group meets weekly, but more importantly we don’t close for Black Friday, Thanksgiving, or any holidays. Those are the days that support is needed more,” Sharon Stevens offers.

Stevens moved to Sun City after the death of her husband.

“My grief was delayed. I moved to be near my daughter and Grandchildren and then I found out my daughter had cancer. I became so involved with caring for her and the grandchildren, that I did not get a chance to grieve.”

Dealing with chronic pain, part 2: Why and how it hurts

Chronic pain, contrary to the acute form, is pain that, despite some fluctuation in intensity, doesn’t go away with time. Mayo Clinic Health Letter explains, “It (chronic pain) can affect a specific area, such as with back pain, headaches or facial pain, or it can be more widespread, such as with fibromyalgia — a disorder that causes pain throughout the body.”
