A gift for grief

“Our group meets weekly, but more importantly we don’t close for Black Friday, Thanksgiving, or any holidays. Those are the days that support is needed more,” Sharon Stevens offers.

Stevens moved to Sun City after the death of her husband.

“My grief was delayed. I moved to be near my daughter and Grandchildren and then I found out my daughter had cancer. I became so involved with caring for her and the grandchildren, that I did not get a chance to grieve.”

Chronic pain, contrary to the acute form, is pain that, despite some fluctuation in intensity, doesn’t go away with time. Mayo Clinic Health Letter explains, “It (chronic pain) can affect a specific area, such as with back pain, headaches or facial pain, or it can be more widespread, such as with fibromyalgia — a disorder that causes pain throughout the body.”

“One of my daughter’s friends saw the car in a car magazine and my husband was listed as the original owner,” Gagainis explained.

Gagainis took a second look at the article.

“It was our car. I couldn’t believe it. We had sold it in 1999 and now 20 years later it looked the same.”

Federal Data issued in the Health-Care Section of February 7 The Wall Street Journal Newspaper informs us that, “More than 50 million adults in the U.S. are living with chronic pain at an estimated annual cost of $560 billion in medical care, lost productivity and disability programs.”

This number is estimated, however, to be much higher according to Mayo Clinic.

Dick Hattan, war veteran, has documented it all.

“I think about it every day. Everyone reflects on their war experience. No one forgets the details. I was in the army for only 17 months, but I think about it every day. For 11 months, I felt threatened every day,” he said.

MCRide Announces 2019 Service Expansion

MCRide, the county’s dial-a-ride service, will ring in the new year with the addition of Sunday rides and an increased service area. Starting January 1, riders will be able to use MCRide from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The service area also will expand to include Fox River Grove, as well as three new destinations.

‘Businesses’ as usual in Huntley

New businesses are coming into Huntley constantly, and the last few months were no exception.

Major news coming out of the village’s economic development department last week revealed that the former Chevrolet auto dealership on south Route 47 next to General RV is being replaced. Coming soon is the More Brewing Company, with a restaurant, brewery, and taproom.
