Two and a half years ago, the former Huntley Outlet Center died after a long struggle to survive. Now, the opportunity for the Huntley government to decide what happens to the former mall property has been taken away from the village, and given to a McHenry County Circuit Court judge.

The annual Fourth of July festivities held across the nation earlier this month included activities such as parades, hot dog eating contests, and backyard barbecues.
The highlight of the holiday for a majority of Americans is the chance to watch fireworks displays at night.
Procrastination is fairly common among taxpayers filing just before the April deadline every year. The government expects to see completed federal tax forms and state tax forms right up to the last minute, but thereâs no history of filing early or late for the Valley Hi Rebate.
A Woodstock man has been cited for dangerous driving after officials say he jumped a curb and drove through a local yard.
After seven years of writing this column, we are proud to say we have never repeated a restaurant. That is partially due to the fact that after we review them, for some reason, they go out of business. Was it something we said???
Recently, there was a discussion on the radio regarding the implementation of self-service checkout lanes at Jewel. I listened especially closely because my son is a checker at the Huntley store. The consensus of the discussion seemed to be that shopping at Jewel was more rewarding when the visit ended with interaction with the checkers and baggers.
This is a follow-up piece in light of the story about Bonnie Archer, from the July 11 edition, who fell victim to a phone scam. The warning signs are important to know.
We recently moved to Sun City and love it here. The hardest thing is deciding which clubs to join. We have one problem we canât solve. When we connect a hose to the faucet in the garage and turn it on it drips on the floor and makes a puddle. Short of putting a bucket under it what can we do?
We recently visited my elderly mother-in-law over the holiday weekend. While it was wonderful to see her, my family and I spent most of the time literally sweating out the visit. I mean, it was almost cooler outside than it was inside her small home. My husband adjusted the thermostat to give us a reprieve from the heat, only to discover that my mother-in-law turned the air conditioning off later in the evening.
The sold out theater erupted into applause as this incredible movie came to an end. I donât know if it was the spectacular settings and background, the animation (which is the best I have seen) or the musical score featuring Beyonce. In all likelihood, it was a combination of the three.
Centegra Health System informs us that, often called a silent disease, osteoporosis may not be detected until a senior’s “bones become so weak that a sudden strain, bump, or fall causes a hip to fracture or a vertebra to collapse.” My own experience has taught me that after a fall, collapsed spinal vertebrae may initially be felt or seen in the form of severe back pain, loss of height, or spinal deformities such as kyphosis (severely stooped posture).

What better way to spend an August afternoon than watching Huntleyâs first responders battle it out in our annual Sun City National Night Out softball game at Eakin Field, followed by music and free food, from 2:45 to 5:30?
Letters for the week of July 25.
Whenever actor Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden was outsmarted by his wife, Alice, on âThe Honeymoonersâ television show, he would tell her: âBang, zoom! Youâre going to the moon!â Traveling to the moon once seemed an impossible feat until the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Apollo 11 Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins made the dream a reality. The first manned trip to the moon occurred fifty years ago on July 20, 1969.

Last edition, the Sun Day published the column âTracing the Enemy of the People to Itâs True Sourceâ by TR Kerth, and it raised some eyebrows, so I decided to address the column and some of the letters we received. The letters we were given approval to publish are featured in this edition, so you may want to read them for reference before reading this column.
More than four decades ago, I started writing news briefs for my college newspaper in a newswriting journalism class. In my junior year, I switched to broadcasting classes and declared my major as Radio Broadcasting. I began in the news reporting business in 1974 and finished a long run in early April when I read my final radio newscasts on 103.9 The Fox and on STAR 105.5 FM in Crystal Lake. Corporate consolidation affected my position.
On most days. you can see a dog enjoying a bike ride around Wildflower Lake, the tennis courts, or anywhere in Sun City, fueled by the leg power of resident Rich Koziol. âPJ is a rescue dog,â Koziol said. âHe was saved from being put down at around a year old by a vet technician who understood that he was a good dog that deserved a chance.â

A couple months ago, while a friend and I drove through western Illinois, I realized that we were only a short drive from Macomb, where I had gone to college at Western Illinois University in the late 1960s. We decided to swing west and check out the university, which I hadnât visited in decades. But besides visiting the campus, high on my list of things to see was the little cottage at 435 N. Chandler Street.

The McHenry County Division of Transportation wants motorists to become more aware of pedestrians and cyclists especially during the summer when people are outside enjoying the warm weather.
The blazing, afternoon heat was not enough to keep veterans from taking the field in Sun Cityâs third annual veterans softball game. Taking place Saturday, June 29, at Eakin field, this weekend event provided attendees a fun experience while working to support a great cause. Event Organizer, Glenn Groebli, has been in charge of running the veterans softball game since 2016. This year, Groebli planned to use proceeds to build a memorial dedicated to all veterans.

Our Sun City home was recently struck by a lightning bolt, and the damage done included some damage to our vinyl siding. Is it still possible to secure siding that will match our current siding in terms of color?
On a recent Sunday morning, I spent a few hours watering the plants at our garden center. Normally I spend Sundays holed up in my office trying to get done all of the work that has piled up on my desk throughout the week. This Sunday was different. I needed to be outside. Frankly, it was quite depressing.
Recently our son and his family came for a visit from the great state of Florida. They have a seven year old son, Henrik, and four year old twin daughters, Ana and Greta. As it is with most grandchildren these days, it seems like they have to be constantly entertained every hour, every minute, every second, of every day, 24/7 during their four day stay.
On June 29, Sun City residents took on the challenge of the Amazing Race. The purpose of the event was to join the charter clubs together in all-club activity.
What should a senior do to achieve optimal bone mass and continue building new healthy bone tissue? Many of the below answers were listed in Part 1 on this topic (Risk Factors that Can Be Changed). However, I would like to reiterate and discuss in fuller detail their importance in Part 2
This is the umpteenth sequel for this franchise, the original with Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst still ranks as the best of the lot, heads and shoulders above this one for sure. Spiderman fans will agree that Tom Holland makes an excellent Peter Parker, just on his good looks alone. However, even he canât score with a less than mediocre script despite the support of an all- star cast.
Iâm starting to feel concerned about my motherâs memory. Sheâs turning 75 next week and she seems to be more forgetful these days. She constantly misplaces her car keys. She repeats stories about the nuances of her day.
A storm with winds over 60 miles per hour whipped through the northern Illinois area on Sunday, June 30.
Letters for the week of July 11.
Residents showed their community pride by wearing the Sun City 20th anniversary gear to a full day of celebration and entertainment. Saturday, June 22, began with a pancake breakfast by Sammyâs Bar & Grill outdoors at the Fountain Pavilion.
