Carol Evans

Carol Evans, 91, of Algonquin, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024, at The Pearl of Crystal Lake.

Carol was a special person who lit up any room she entered. She will be remembered for her quick wit, infectious laugh, and her ability to make any person she spoke with feel special. She was a good friend who kept in constant touch with her best friends for over 80 years. She was talented at sewing and cross stitch. She enjoyed playing bridge and doing puzzles. She was an avid Ohio State fan, and you could find her most weekends cheering for her football team. She hated cooking, but loved to bake cookies with her grandchildren, though they would often eat a lot of the batter before any cookies were made.

Carol was born on December 23, 1932, in Bainbridge, Ohio to Mary and James Smalley, and grew up in Columbus, Ohio. She married her high school sweetheart, Norman Evans, on December 28, 1952. Together, they had three wonderful children and moved across the country many times over for Norm’s work. Carol worked in administration of a school district in Houston where she helped employees understand the benefits provided. When she retired, she and Norm moved to Sun City in Huntley, Illinois to be closer to their youngest child, Megan, and her family.

She is survived by her son, Brad (Diane Donley) Evans, daughter, Joyce (Wouter) Blom, and daughter, Megan (Tim) Barry. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, Weston Blom, Lillian (Jason Carnevale) Evans, Robert Evans, Timothy Barry, Colleen Barry, Bridget Barry and Cara Barry. She also left two special great grandchildren, June and Miles Carnevale.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 17, at First Church of Crystal Lake. Friends and family are invited to the reception beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Northwestern Medicine Huntley, Illinois, and The Pearl of Crystal Lake for their support during this difficult time.

Carol Evans will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live forever in our hearts.
