Susan Dorothea Wehnes

Susan Dorothea Wehnes (“Susie”), 83, of Huntley, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Susie was born on August 29, 1942, the daughter of Edward and Marguerite (Schiedt) Huebl. Following her graduation from Solomon Juneau high school, she worked for Alice Chalmers and later worked for a car leasing company, where she continued to build lasting professional relationships.

On March 4, 1972, Susie married the love of her life, Ralph E. Wehnes. From the moment they met, they knew they were meant to be together, sharing a deep appreciation for their German heritage and Lutheran faith. She attended business school and went on to be a travel agent for over 20 years. Ralph and Susie were truly an incredible team, supporting one another in all they did and facing life side by side.

Susie was a member of Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, where her faith and dedication were evident throughout the years. She served faithfully on the altar guild, building committee, and finance committee, and was always ready to help wherever she was needed. A talented quilter and seamstress, Susie found joy in creating with her hands. She was also an avid reader, a devoted Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed playing tennis and golf. Traveling with Ralph was one of her greatest pleasures.

Susie is survived by her beloved husband, Ralph Wehnes; her stepchildren, Dody Wehnes and Ralph (Wendy) Wehnes III; her grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Jomant and Ralph (Lauren) Wehnes IV; and her cherished great-granddaughters, Olivia, Gracie and Oakley. She is also survived by her sisters, Sharon Malinowski and Joanne Semotan. She is also survived by her faithful dog, Liberty Bell.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 30, from 4-7 p.m. at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, 10850 Main Street, Huntley. A second visitation will take place Saturday, January 31 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., also at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church.
